A Brigadeiro is deliciously soft, condensed milk based sweet from Brazil. Traditionally served at parties and weddings it is the perfect accompaniment to either a coffee or a glass of bubbly!
The Brigadeiro (meaning Brigadier) was invented in 1945 when Eduardo Gomes, a handsome Brigadier started his presidential campaign. Due to his good looks and the fact that he was single, a group of women decided to create a sweet chocolate treat to sell at parties as a fundraiser for his campaign.
Despite all the ladies efforts, Eduardo lost the election, however the increasingly popular sweet remained and was named in his honour, “Brigadeiro”.
I lived in Brazil for nearly 2 years and fell in love with the cuisine.
I travelled to different states and was bowled over by the varieties of delicious food I tasted, however the Brigadeiros particularly grabbed my attention. I decided that the English market needed to taste these little beauties and when I returned to London I began creating and experimenting with traditional and original flavours and so The London Brigaderia was born!
